One of the freshest clothing stores on the scene is Belyst in Covington Plaza. The fun and bright selection of contemporary clothing is augmented by vintage jewelry, handmade hair accessories and works by local artists. Belyst (it means illuminated in Danish) is another great resource in our city for unique yet well-known labels such as Twinkle by Wenlen, Dear Creatures and Eva Franco. Make this a regular stop for colorfully printed dresses and blouses, denim and accessories that free-spirited fashionistas will love! 6380 W. Jefferson Blvd. in Covington Plaza 46804 (260) 432-4441

I’m always happy to test out new restaurants in town and after I heard a few friends raving about an Avocado Smoothie, I became as intrigued as I hope you are right now. I’m an avocado lover but just could not imagine how it would taste in a smoothie. I was not disappointed. The mild and creamy flavor was amazingly delicious with just a hint of sweetness, and the included tapioca balls were an extra treat (they’re really fun to chew). In addition to a slew of traditional and kind of out-there flavors, like Lavender Milk Tea, Bahn Mi offers fantastic sandwiches at really great prices.  Also on the menu are various baked goods including cookies, muffins, cupcakes, scones, pies and cheesecakes. Fort Wayne, you have a new place to lunch. Baked goods start at $1.75, smoothies start at $3.75, and sandwiches at $3.25. 5320 Coldwater Road. 46825 260-387-7222

Mixing old and new with high and low has become all the rage in fashion and home décor. The Repurpose Room in Warsaw has beautiful, painted and pre-loved furniture and décor accessories in store and each piece is unique in style and color. On a recent trip I fell head over heels for an antique mirror, painted a shiny white, that now hangs on my bedroom wall as well as a china cabinet that I wish I could fit into my home. The owners use a few scouting resources but then rely on their creative instincts to re-imagine a new look for their inventory. If you ask nicely, they’ll even let you into their back room where the works in progress hang out until getting their time in the store. Also, don’t miss the basement where lower priced and not yet repurposed items live. Open Wednesday through Saturday. Like their Facebook page for hours, updates and new arrivals. Prices start at $35. 210 S. Buffalo St. Warsaw 46580 (574) 267-1725
